Farewell, Facebook (by aadm)

I got very bored with all this facebook craze lately so here’s what I did last June.

1 hour and 19 minutes

Using everytrail for iphone: the app shows for this particular trip 33km in 1 hour and 19 minutes with a resulting average speed of 25km/h.

The same trip displayed on everytrail.com is 1 hour and 46 minutes long, however, which makes for an average speed of 18.6 km/h.

I have paused the tracking after having arrived ...

ipad and photography

I am wondering about the next iPad. What is available now is certainly enticing and must be a joy for light computing / intense internet reading. I do have limited budget, however, and think that probably the iPhone 4 is a better way to spend my money. But I look at the iPad and keep thinking that it could be a ...

rientro in pista mugello 2010

Date Tags moto

a volte milano

Date Tags misc

A volte, Milano è bella.

lost hopes

The creators of Lost, in an interview given in 2005 (right after the conclusion of season 1):

The survivors will not learn they are part of some dastardly experiment, or discover they are in purgatory, or wake up from a bad dream.

(The Laws of the Jungle by Lorne Manly, 18 September 2005).

So how did it end season 6 ...

montanari incapaci

Leggevo questo articolo: Going Where A Lot of Other Dudes With Really Great Equipment Have Gone Before, di John Tierney (New York Times, 26 luglio 1998), e trovo questo passaggio che dà praticamente una giustificazione antropologica al desiderio che noi abbiamo di comprarci chiodi, martelli, piccozze, abbigliamento in tactel, etc etc:

It can’t be just a coincidence that the ...

twentyfour

I’ve been a great fan of 24 since its first season, years ago. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed the first season, and also the second and the third. However, the show has been moving towards full improbability with the latest seasons. I think I also watched season 4, and then I don’t remember anymore; maybe I’ve also seen ...

mountain bike movies

I am an enthusiast mountain bike rider, but because I seem to be affected by a number of injuries associated with slow recovery times (my old age plays a big part here, as it is physiologically proven that is faster to recover from a broken bone when you’re 20 than if you’re approaching your 40s), I don’t ...

sicurezza stradale

Day 303/366 - Dead on her feet (by Great Beyond)

iPad and crufty interfaces

Why the iPad is a potentially groundbreaking platform, despite the accusations of being ‘only a large iPhone’.

Just read this old piece written in 2003 by a (very smart) tech blogger; it’s about user interface defects as heritage of early ...

the look of the trail

Beatiful photos here: http://nsmb.com/3326-dorado-tested/.

They convey an intense idea of action with those blurred backgrounds and the rider not quite in focus above the panned trails; I also like the tight shots and the washed-out colour palette.

And speaking about the ‘look’ of these images, I couldn’t help but noticing what the rider was wearing: mean-looking ...

martin gardner on the road

Would you tell me, please, which way I ought to go from here?”
“That depends a good deal on where you want ...

training at idroscalo

Training with my fixie at the Idroscalo. In the foreground, my red San Marco Concor; back there, the mountains that you rarely see from this very polluted and hazy city — the Grigne. Training was: 15 series of friggin’ fast spins (around 100 rpm), 15” each, followed by 45” of slower pedaling. Well the idea was this but since I had ...

report disclaimer

This report relates the results of an advanced, quantitative seismic characterization of the Alpha field, through simultaneous elastic inversion, rock physics modelling and stochastic classification. In the absence of any reliable geophysical data, the opinions and interpretations presented in this report were invented. However, due to the uncertainty inherent in the estimation of all sub-surface parameters, they might as well ...

Ok, so the story goes like this: I already have a (rarely) updated blog at aadm.wordpress.com, sometimes I post shorties to twitter, and all of this seems too much to handle, so again: why the hell should I start using tumblr ?

Edit January 2012: as it turns out, I got fed up with Tumblr and moved all of ...

la repubblica vs new york times

Il 29 agosto 2009 il New York Times pubblica un articolo di Amy Cortese, “Wiggling Their Toes at the Shoe Giants“.

day 1 - mercoledì 22 luglio
